Ateliers de Cergy
On May 20th, 2016 the Ambassador of France attended, at the invitation of the municipality of Saint Laurent du Maroni, the restitution session of works of teams called Ateliers (workshop) de Cergy missioned to trace the urban perspectives of the agglomeration in 2060. The evolution which will be experienced in the coming years in Saint Laurent and the municipalities of western Guyane is inseparable from the experience of the Surinamese side of the Maroni.
That is why the Surinamese authorities, represented in particular by the District Commissioner, Mr. Jerry Miranda, had been invited to participate in the jury’s decision on the projects submitted by the various teams. Planning professionals and members of the University of Paramaribo, Anton de Kom were associated to these reflections.
These exchanges and reflections have shown and confirmed that the Maroni area has been a space for sharing and joint development between Surinamese and French actors, consultation is already the subject of various consultation bodies such as the Council of the River, which meets every six months.
