Starting March 1st 2018, all holders of an ordinary passport, regardless of their nationality, who need to apply in Paramaribo for a Schengen visa to travel to France, will need to lodge their application at the VFS Global office in Paramaribo, where they will also collect their passports. This means that the Dutch Embassy in Paramaribo will be issuing the Schengen visas for the ordinary passports for all Schengen Member States.
The French Embassy will keep issuing the Schengen visas for all holders of a diplomatic or a service passport, regardless of their nationality, who need to apply in Paramaribo for a Schengen visa to travel to France. The Embassy will also keep issuing long stay visas for France and its overseas territories for all kinds of passport holders.
This new arrangement is crucial for the aim of the French Embassy to improve the service to the short stay visa applicants for French Guiana and other French overseas territories for all kind of passport holders, as the French Consulate will have more time to process them, making it possible to issue the visas more quickly. The French Embassy is already issuing long-term short stay visas for French Guiana for officials of the Surinamese government and agencies involved in the regional cooperation. The same facility will be extended very soon to a list of business men and women, to be provided by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Suriname (KKF).
Furthermore, the Embassy is issuing more free visas, as part of the exceptional measures which the Ambassador can take, in the context of cultural relations, sports and tourism between Suriname and French Guiana, provided that there is a request from a French Guianese institution or it is a tourism trip organized by a certified travel agency.
An appointment for the visas for French Guiana and other French overseas territories can be made through the website of the embassy: www.ambafrance-sr.org
An appointment for the application for a short stay Schengen visa can now be made online via VFS Global in Suriname.
Please take into account all the conditions on the VFS Global website.
